The complexity of supporting Microsoft Windows is such that a large number of smaller organisations and schools do not have the resources to manage their computers. The Trusted Computing Project is working with a growing number of computer consultancies that are providing support services to SMEs and schools based on the Trusted Computing Architecture. It is recognised that all organisations have a legacy of Microsoft Windows applications on which their business is dependent. These applications can be run efficiently as 'thin clients' from Linux desktop computers where the applications run on back end servers with the display output to the Linux desktop. This enables complete compatibility with all existing applications and by isolating the Microsoft computers from the network the problems of viruses and Trojans that plague Microsoft PCs is eliminated.
